Habronattus brunneus (Peckham & Peckham, 1901)

NA Range Map
Salticidae of North America
Richman, Cutler & Hill 2012

Habronattus brunneus belongs to the coecatus group of Habronattus spiders whose members, along with those of the viridipes group, have fringes and spines on Leg I and modifications of Leg III. This is also one of the Habronattus jumpers whose immature males have red scales on the clypeus but lack red scales in the adult stage. The initial clips of the video illustrate the red clypeus of an immature male while the following clips of a mature male show the Leg I and Leg III modifications. This species range is restricted to Florida and Georgia and the video shown here was shot at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park.
